Headteacher's Welcome

Welcome to St. Wilfrid’s Church of England Primary Academy …

On behalf of the whole school community, I would like to welcome you to our website.

St. Wilfrid’s Church of England Primary Academy has been delivering education as part of the Standish Community for many years and we are very proud of all that has been achieved. We are very much a family who work together in partnership to ensure that all children are happy and achieve well. We enjoy close links with St. Wilfrid’s Church and we are very proud of our strong and distinctive Christian identity, culture and ethos, which permeates all aspects of school life.

St. Wilfrid’s Church of England Primary Academy is part of the Learning Together Trust and the support school in the Multi Academy Trust, currently working with three other local schools and working collaboratively.

In September 2007, Ofsted judged the school to be Outstanding in all areas. We are very proud of this and the significant achievements of all our children. During January 2018, we had an extremely successful SIAMs inspection, which was also judged to be outstanding in all areas. We have been successful in achieving a range of awards and accreditations.

In 2019, we were awarded ‘Primary School of the Year’ in the Wigan Education Awards, which we are immensely proud of. At the same awards, we were thrilled to be named winners of ‘Sustainable School Award’ for our highly effective Eco-Team. We were also shortlisted for a number of other awards including ‘Health and Wellbeing Award’ for our whole school wellbeing days, ‘Community Award’ for our continued work with Wigan Hospice and finally ‘Inspirational Teacher Award’ for our specialist Music teacher, Mrs Goulding.

I hope that you find the information on our website useful, giving you an insight into the life and work of our Academy.

Mr. Stuart Colothan

“School is about providing an environment and ethos where children are given an education of the highest quality, which leads to academic excellence, personal development and spiritual growth. It is about nurturing individuals, who reflect Christian Character and values, and are prepared for tomorrow’s challenges as lifelong learners.”
