Careers & Aspirations Week

What a wonderful week of fun we have had learning all about different careers in our very first Careers and Aspirations Week.

Thank you to everyone who gave their time up to come into school and help the children understand what real people do in their careers. We managed to fill every slot for a whole week for every child in school! Thank you.

Amongst our highlights was a visit from Galloways Bakers, who helped Berk to have a very special birthday by bringing a cake for him and his classmates to decorate.

Andy Crane came into school to talk to the children about jobs in the media industry.

Year 2 visited the Mayor's parlour to find out what sorts of roles you could do there.

We had doctors and nurses, aircrew, policeman, firemen, a historian, yoga teacher, a wood carver, scientists and much more.

Our Nursery children were treated to a live haircut when a very brave Mrs Brokas volunteered to have her hair cut (she was very happy with the result!).

Our Year 4 children got to work with a games developer for the day (which was very exciting!).

During the week we held a full day jobs fair. Every child in school visited the fair (which was very noisy and chaotic!) and were able to talk to anyone on a stall in a job that interested them. We had banks and building societies, a lovely baker who ran out of cakes very quickly! Standish Surgery sent along nurses and their Practice Manager, we had personal trainers, cabin crew, doctors, representatives from STEM industries (who ran some very exciting experiments), a representative of manufacturing industries (who bought some tricky puzzles), staff from the local archive department and the owner and staff of a local gym (who bought along a challenge game which was hugely popular).

Radio Chorley came along and recorded our Reception children singing their work song and explained to the children what roles were available in local radio.

The Mayor visited our jobs fair as a guest and bought along her attendant and her PA to explain what they did in their roles.

The ambulance came to school, so the children could learn about being a paramedic, we had dog trainers, the Canal and River Trust, different departments from Wigan Council and even a professional rugby player!

We had a very busy and exciting week and loved dressing up in our work clothes!

During the week every child created their own feather with their hopes for their future careers. These were then transformed into angel wings and owls as part of a huge school display.

Huge thanks to everyone who supported us for the week - giving up their own time to come into school and inspire our children. We can't thank you enough!
